



Irving B. Sugerman is the managing partner of Goldman & Rosen. He is a
litigator, a governmental lawyer and a mediator who provides practical,
positive and cost effective solutions to a wide variety of individuals,
businesses and political subdivisions. Sugerman is an aggressive trial
lawyer, a skilled negotiator and an effective mediator.
Sugerman's litigation practice includes many types of complex cases, ranging
from business disputes, real estate and land use matters, employment law,
legal malpractice, bankruptcy and other high profile and high stakes
litigation.
Sugerman has served as the law director and special counsel to many local
governmental entities. He is currently legal counsel to Coventry Township,
Copley Township and the Village of Lodi. In addition, Sugerman has provided
legal services to the Summit County-area Metro Parks, Akron, Ohio's Metro
Regional Transit Authority, the cities of Green, Fairlawn and Norton,
Springfield, Bath and Twinsburg Townships, and many others. Sugerman is well
known for his knowledge of zoning and land use planning, as well as for his
expertise in economic development and inter-governmental agreements. He
negotiated the first Joint Economic Development Agreements in the State of
Ohio on behalf of client Townships with the City of Akron, agreements that
have won state and national recognition.
Sugerman has been selected by his peers as an Ohio SuperLawyer
for 2011 in the area of Government, Cities and Municipalities, one of only
seven lawyers in the State of Ohio to receive such designation in that
field.
Sugerman is also a trained mediator, having completed the Advanced Course on
Land Use mediation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has
served as the Adjunct professor for Negotiations at the University of Akron
School of Law for the past eight years and was named as the John R. Quine
Outstanding Adjunct Professor for 2011. Sugerman is also a frequent lecturer
at continuing legal education courses.
Sugerman is a member of the Akron and Ohio State Bar Associations and is
licensed to practice in the Sixth and District of Columbia Circuit Courts of
Appeals. He has argued several cases before the Ohio Supreme Court.
Sugerman is a 1978 graduate of Marietta College and a 1982 graduate of the
University of Akron School of Law. He is very active in his community and
has served as president of the Shaw Jewish Community Center and the Jewish
Community Board of Akron. He also served as president of Ohio Jewish
Communities, a statewide lobbying and governmental affairs organization. A
former member of the Bath Township Zoning Commission, Sugerman is currently
on the Board of Directors of Stewart's Caring Place.
